Treatment of Intertrochanteric Fracture of the Hip Joint by Percutaneous Multiple Pinning

Abstract
The primary goal in the treatment of an elderly patient with an inter-trochanteric hip fracture is to return the patient to his prefracture activity as soon as possible.
Rapid mobilization of a pain-free patient helps to prevent other complication of confinement to bed in the elderly patient.
For these reason, percutanneous multiple pinning was performed using a ordinary portable x-ray with a new measuring wires which were designed at Korea University Hospital.
Twenty five elderly patients of intertrochanteric fracture were treated with multiple pinning under portable x-ray from March 1979 to May 1982. All of these cases were above sixty years old combined with other systemic diseases.
The results obtained are as follows:
1. The operative procedure in 25 patients combined with pre-existing diseases could be done simply and safely without any complicated procedure.
2. All patients could return to daily activity adjusting to the Korean "Ondol" style without death due to surgery.
